This is the second year we have sponsored the awards, which were held at the Royal College of Physicians, London on the 12th October and attended by our very own, Sang Duong, Business Development Manager ACV UK. 

Sang was very impressed with the quality of the presentations from all the candidates commenting; “It’s fantastic to see how these awards encourage young people to enter a career within building services engineering”

The winners announced on the day were:

Graduate of the Year: Francesca James from FairHeat and Cambridge University.  Francesca, who has a keen interest in the sustainability sector, will receive the first prize of a fully paid trip to the ASHRAE Conference in Chicago.

Undergraduate of the Year: Ruairi Devlin of the University of Nottingham who impressed with his final year research project, ‘Low energy cooling for residential buildings in hot climates.’

Apprentice of the Year (Level 5-7): Jess Sergeant

Apprentice of the Year (Level 3-4): Sidney Hargreaves

Employer of the Year: AECOM

The CIBSE Young Engineer Awards have been running for more than a quarter of a century and celebrate the best new talent in the building services industry, as well as recognising employers who go above and beyond in their commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers.

With the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) revealing that less than half of new engineering recruits have either the necessary technical or soft skills needed for work within the industry, never has it been more important to recognise and encourage blossoming engineering talent.

Adrian Catchpole, President of CIBSE, said: “The Young Engineers Awards play a pivotal role in encouraging outstanding young engineers and challenging them to address some of the industry’s most critical issues.

“These emerging talents, supported by employers that nurture and develop their skills, are poised to drive the innovation required for the industry to fulfil our commitment to reducing global emissions and creating a net zero built environment.”
